Autumn weekends in Neutral Bay are for…

Posted in Local Lifestyle on April 24, 2023 by Anthony Somlai

Autumn has arrived in Neutral Bay, and that (hopefully) means fresh, clear weather and lots of chances to enjoy our stunning suburb.

Not only is Neutral Bay one of the best investment property suburbs in Sydney, it is also a hive of activity all year round.

Here are a few of the things to check out in Neutral Bay this autumn.

Beautiful walks

There is no better way to enjoy the lovely autumn weather than to take a walk around Neutral Bay and its surroundings.

Cremorne Point Walk: At only 3km, this walk around Cremorne Point is perfect for a crisp autumn morning. Enjoy stunning harbour views and take in the colonial architecture of the area.

Balmoral Beach: The 6km walk along Balmoral Beach offers the combination of a beautiful harbourside walk with the Taronga Zoo as the culmination, and takes around two hours if you don’t stop, although you can always enjoy a swim, head into the zoo, or stop for a bite at one of the cafes and restaurants along the way.

World-class restaurants

There is never a shortage of dining options in Neutral Bay. Here are just a few to try this autumn.

Home by Cornhill: Home by Cornhill is a newcomer to the Neutral Bay cafe scene, having opened only a year ago, but they have already become a popular spot for breakfast and lunch. They serve what they describe as ‘refined comfort food’, including Indian-inspired eggs benedict and a full cooked breakfast.

Against the Grind: A vibrant and cool little cafe, not only does Against the Grind do delicious coffee and an excellent lunch, but they are also a deli, so you can pick up some supplies before you head off.

The Oaks Hotel: The Oaks has been the cultural hub of Neutral Bay since it was built in 1863. The Oaks remains a highly popular venue and an excellent place for an autumn pub lunch.

Markets and shopping

Cafes, and restaurants aren’t the only thing about Neutral Bay that make it such a sought-after place to live and visit. There is also no end to boutique shopping and markets to enjoy.

The Kirribilli Markets: Right next door to Neutral Bay is one of Australia’s favourite and most popular markets. Operating since 1976 and open on the fourth Sunday of every month, the Kirribilli Markets boast more than 220 stalls selling all kinds of unique items, including new and recycled fashion and accessories. Check out the website for upcoming dates in May.

Mosman Market: To let you know, Mosman Market is on hold during the first part of this year! However, you can find vendors online here.

Military Road: For all kinds of shopping in Neutral Bay, head to Military Road. You’ll find everything from high-end fashion to vintage clothing and homewares.

Movies

Everyone in Neutral Bay knows there is only one place to go to the movies, and that is:

The Orpheum: Along with the French Film Festival being hosted at the stunning and historic Orpheum this autumn, you can also enjoy a 25th-anniversary screening of The Big Lebowski, a double feature of The Goonies and The Lost Boys, and a number of other reasons to make the trip.

Exercise

While everyone is still waiting for the reopening of the North Sydney Olympic Pool, there still remain plenty of ways to get active in Neutral Bay this May.

Swim: It may be getting cooler, but many still enjoy braving the waters of Balmoral beach at all times of the year. Maccallum Seawater Pool on the West side of Cremorne Point is also a popular spot for enthusiasts all year round.

The Neutral Bay Community Centre: There’s always lots of exercise to be had for young and not-so-young at the Neutral Bay Community Centre. From pilates to Tai Chi, to Zumba and yoga, there is someone for everyone there to help get fit this autumn.

Cooking

Finally, why not learn a new skill this autumn? The autumn calendar at the Sydney Cooking School includes French Cuisine, Mexican margaritas, Thai, Japanese, and so much more.

There’s so much to do in Neutral Bay

This is only a short list of the many things there are to do in Neutral Bay this autumn. It is little wonder that it is such a popular suburb for buyers, investors and renters alike.
